Overview
Some users may encounter an unexpected Unable to locate dashboard or read timeout error when exporting dashboards through our app. This behavior is caused by Salesforce security enforcement and is not an issue with the export feature itself.
Who Is Affected?
This issue occurs when all of the following conditions are true:
The org setting below is checked:
Setup → Identity Verification → Multi-Factor Authentication →
Require multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all direct UI logins to your Salesforce orgThe user has not yet registered an authenticator app or MFA method on their Salesforce account
The user uses SSO to login to their Salesforce account
The user attempts to export a dashboard via our app (which triggers a Salesforce UI login flow)
What Happens?
When exporting dashboards, Salesforce may treat the export session as a direct UI login. And, when MFA is required and the user has not completed MFA setup, Salesforce interrupts the export process and displays a verification/setup screen such as:
Connect an Authenticator app
Setup multi-factor authentication
Verify your identity
Until the user completes MFA registration, Salesforce will not allow the export to continue. The app keeps waiting on this page and ultimately times outs after 2 minutes.
Workarounds
Option 1: User Completes MFA Setup in Salesforce (Recommended)
The simplest solution is for the affected user to register an authenticator app in Salesforce:
Log in to Salesforce directly in the browser using https://login.salesforce.com
Go to:
Settings → Advanced User Details → Multi-Factor Authentication
Register an authenticator app (e.g., Salesforce Authenticator, Google Authenticator, Authy)
Retry the dashboard export in our app
Once MFA is linked, exports should work normally.
Option 2: Use a User Account That Has MFA Configured
You can use a dedicated user who has already completed MFA registration to perform all the dashboard exports.
Option 3: Org Admin Adjusts MFA Enforcement Policy (If Allowed)
Salesforce admins may choose to modify the org-level MFA requirement if it fits their security policies.
For example:
Disable Require multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all direct UI logins to your Salesforce org
Apply MFA only to certain login types or profiles
Note: Salesforce strongly recommends MFA, so any changes should be reviewed carefully by the security team.
